BuddyBug – Radio Darom Interview

On the 4th of November Ido, CEO of DODO Apps, got interviewed for Radio Darom and talked about our recent app – BuddyBug.
The Interview was in Hebrew, the following is the English translation:

Yael: “Welcome back to the ‘Student Time’ show on Radio Darom. Tonight we are going to talk with Ido Marko, a 21 years old Engineering student from Netanya. Among all of the stuff students are busy with – studying, working, hanging out with friends, Ido also developed a mobile application. So, Hey Ido!”
Ido: “Hey, How are you?”
Yael: “Fine, thank you. […] So can you tell us about the app?”
Ido: “Sure thing! So, are you familiar with the feeling of the weekend vibes? You are full of fantasizes about what you’re going to do during the weekend. You already have a scenario built up in your head – for example, you want to go bowling, but suddenly not even one of your friends wants to tag along. Ok, that’s no reason to give the weekend! So you suggest going out for a movie, but again, your friends don’t like it. So instead of going out and living out your fantasies, you just give up on them because you have no one to go with. This is where BuddyBug enters. BuddyBug connects people based on joint activities, and allow them to fulfill their fantasies. So if you want to go out for Bowling, as we have mentioned earlier, and you have no one to go with, you simply enter the app and update that you want to go Bowling. Afterwards, other users will be able to swipe right like, and confirm that they want to go Bowling with you, or swipe left, and keep browsing for other activities that they are interested in. I think the coolest thing about BuddyBug is that the app won’t show your profile image to other users until after you have connected with each other. Meaning that until you didn’t swipe right or someone swiped right on you, you won’t be able to view the profile picture of the other user”
Yael: “Yeah, otherwise it could just turn into a dating app, which is not a bad thing but also is not the main purpose of the app”
Ido: “You’re correct, but if a romantic relationship will emerge of BuddyBug, I sure won’t complain”
Yael: “The application is targeted to everybody right?”
Ido: “Yes, it fits for everyone. The idea is really to get people out there and make them know each other through activities. It doesn’t have to be something that they want to do, but also just a new experience they want to have”
Yael: “How do you develop an app while being a student? Let alone the time you need to put into it, but there’s also the funding issue”
Ido: “First of all, now would be a great time to say a big thank you that everyone that contributed to BuddyBug. Many people volunteered – Testers, designers , etc. A lot of the budget goes to programming and development at the first rounds, but fortunately for me I am a programmer so I could save the cost of the software”
Yael: “So if a student wants to develop an app while studying, you confirm that there are people out there who are looking for experience and would like to work on something together?”
Ido: “Yep. Today you can also find many places that would like to support young startups. I recommend people to search online for such places”
Yael: “Great. Can you give our audience tips on how to get started to work on a project like this?”
Ido: “The most important thing for me – Don’t stop at the idea part, go out and implement your ideas. I’ve given a few lectures on this topic. In my opinion, following through with your idea is the most difficult part. Everybody has an ‘idea’, but not many people do something with it. My suggestion to people who want to implement their ideas is to start by reading what is the right way to do so. It is valid for every kind of idea out there – from clothes designing to mobile applications. Any idea you have is implementable and we are thankful for the initiative!”
Yael: “Yes, as you said, the important thing is to follow through with the idea”
Ido: “Totally!”
Yael: “It was a pleasure hearing about BuddyBug, which is now available on Google play store and hopefully in the app store soon enough. Thank you and good night”
Ido: “Good night!”
